Studio Objectives and Mission

The mission of the TTU Clarinet Studio is to help students realize their full potential through mastering clarinet skills and developing musical artistry.

The studio provides a positive, high energy environment to help students grow in their knowledge and experience in clarinet pedagogy and the art of performance. This is achieved through dedicated instruction, and a wish to offer a lesson experience that inspires, supports and encourages students to push the limits of their abilities.

Every student, music education or performance major, will learn the mechanics of clarinet fundamentals and pedagogy.  The TTU clarinet program is well known for its innovative and progressive pedagogical approaches.  Students are directly involved in the creative process of developing new pedagogies that help to provide deeper insights into clarinet teaching and performance.  Whether a student’s professional goal is teaching, performance, or both, every clarinetist will be thoroughly trained in the fundamentals of playing the instrument.

Every student is developed as an individual and in many instances the line between performance major and music education major is blurred.  Students are not treated differently with regard to their degree emphasis, but each receives a personalized course of instruction to help them be successful in realizing their specific career goals.

The studio environment can be characterized as positive and nurturing, while also expecting a high level of student achievement.  The TTU School of Music is a large program but maintains the personal attention and focus that are normally found at smaller schools.  It is the goal of the clarinet program that students leave every lesson inspired and excited to work on what they have learned in their lesson.  Personal criticism, sarcasm, demeaning comments are not part of the culture and environment in the studio.  Instruction will always focus on the music and helping students realize the highest level clarinet playing and musicianship.
